Certified Herbalist / Shamanic Healer
Analogous to my nickname,‘Prairie Fire’, I moved in a flurry to Vancouver, BC to study Medical Herbalism, and if you don’t know this designation, it is closely related to Naturopathic ND’s, only far more superior in the knowledge of plants - what we call Phytomedicine. I completed my practicum in two very busy clinics in Scotland; Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Hi, I’m Janice and I will over simplify my life story, so you get the big picture of my essence and passion. I love all things art and creativity, having started as a wee 5 yr old in tap dance and took this art into jazz, Russian ballet, hip hop and flamenco. I was led into singing for my pure lilt, and piano - but truly I wanted the Strings!
The feminine force was flowing and like water to a river I studied Textiles - Japanese Bokashi Silk Painting at Alberta University of the Arts, which led to a scholarship at Parson’s School of Design in NY.
I look at all life and all experiences as an Art Form, learning the craft and taking it to a higher form whether it be with paint, botanical science or the investigation into the human condition.
All the images on this website are painted or photographed by me.
Which leads me to tell you that where I grew up was in the grasslands of the Rocky Mountain foothills, and I loved it! I was guided by the steps of creatures great and small who left their prints in my heart and soul. I spent many days sitting with them as though family. It was an instinctual knowing that our health and wellbeing resided in our relationship with nature, our pharmacopeia in our backyards and right at hand.
When I returned from Scotland, having completed my Clinical Herbalism Certification requirements and passing the board exam, I was invited to join Chanchal Cabrera’s (Medical Herbalist) clinic. The request from patients to visit them in their homes grew, and I soon learned of the value for giving house calls. I’ve been practicing for more than 26 years.
The smoldering inspiration in my heart for humanity and it’s path, has always been hopeful, but the reality of humanity turning it’s cheek on the great wonders of nature and turning to emergency medicine for chronic conditions has woo’d me so. So much practical and indigenous ancient knowledge is slipping away as our elders pass and manuscripts disappear to colonization and industrialization.
Now we’ve made our soils sick, the plants have lost their natural immunity through forced monocrops, spray, erosion and the result is seen in our bodies. Nothing goes one way.
I am here to tell you that we can return to our biological identity - Mother Earth - and harmonize with her. The further we remove ourselves from nature, the weaker we become. We need to take the right steps and determination to unite with nature for we are all indigenous, children of the earth. Be a witness to our true doctor.
